Saving Money Buying A Used RV

By Maryanne Goff

While they might be one of the best ways to take a trip, they can also cost loads of money. Of course, nobody ever said that you had to buy one brand new. Buying a used RV is the best way to get one and still save some money. When you are buying something that can easily cost as much as a small to medium sized home, you have to be a bit careful.

Recreational vehicles are expensive and if you get one that has all the amenities your price tag could easily be as much as a medium sized home. So unless you have tons of cash just sitting around, or you can afford a second home, then you would not want to buy one new. These days it is amazing what these things are coming with.

The engine is one of the items that must be looked at very closely. The last thing you will want is to start out on your trip and get stranded somewhere with no other means of transportation. Of course you can tow your regular car behind you but not everyone has the means to do so. Having a professional examine the engine closely is always a good idea.

Looking at the wheels as well as the transmission and axles and anything else that might be of some concern. Depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it and where and how it was stored can make a big difference in its condition and how it runs. The thing that you must also be aware of is the condition and care of the interior.

The interior is also something that needs to be looked after carefully. If people did not take care of it or clean it properly after trips you could be looking at a disaster. Not only that but the last thing you would want is a purchase that will end up costing you much more money than you ever expected. That would surely be a poor investment.

All you have to do is hook up the waste hoses and make sure you have enough water in the tank (which can be refilled of course) and you are set. Well, naturally food is a concern. But then again you can stop at any super market along the way and get whatever you need. Then if you wish to stop at a campsite anywhere along the highway there is nothing to stop you.

Once you decide on a price and determine that everything is in working order, or at least enough that you don't mind fixing the rest, you will have the purchase of a lifetime. There are a ton of lifelong memories that can be made in these vehicles and they can be great fun for a couple or an entire family, kids and all.

Buying a used RV can be some of the best money you have ever spent. Not only did you get something that you have probably wanted for a very long time, but you have also saved a bundle as well. This is money that can be spent on supplies for the trip or upgrades on the camper. There is no telling where one of these trips will end up. Sometimes the best way to plan one of these is not to plan them at all and just see where it takes you.
