By Henrei C Steel

Every year, there are millions of used cars being bought and sold in the United States alone so clearly, there is a healthy market for late model cars nowadays. So there not much surprise behind the popularity of companies such as Hertz.

It is important to know however, that there also downsides to buying a used car even if you will work with reputable car dealers. So if you are in the market for a used car, it helps to look into the pros and cons of buying one before you do spend your money. First of these advantages of course is affordability. A $15K budget is not enough for a brand new sedan but it is more than sufficient to buy a two-year old, manufacturer certified, pre-owned van or a higher end sedan. Meaning you can get more "car" out of your budget.

There are also a lot of used cars in the market today. You can browse around used cars and be sure you will end up finding a vehicle that fits your budget and needs. And because used cars have less value, they will be cheaper to insure. It is also more affordable to register a used car because you paid less money for it. And you tend to worry less about scratching the paint or denting the car's bumper the way you would on a brand new car - the previous owner certainly has done all this for you.

There are obviously a number of advantages of buying used cars but its' equally important to understand why buying used cars isn't something that works for everybody. First of all, you are most likely to spend cash taking the car in for repairs simply because it is already used.

You can look at their website to learn more about buying used cars. Also, used cars do not come with warranties unless of course you do not mind paying extra for a certified pre-owned car that come with extended warranties from the manufacturer. It can also be a little difficult to learn about the history of the car particularly if you will buy from private sellers.

If you are not careful enough, you may end up spending money buying a problem car simply because the private sellers or dealers have withheld information about the car's history. So it is best that you have a personal mechanic check the car and test drive it before you discuss price with the sellers just to be sure you are not buying a lemon or a car that will cost you a fortune to fix.
