Return Of Alfa Romeo US Sales Is Serious, Really

By Cornelius Nunev

Fiat is very serious about bringing Alfa Romeo back to the U.S.. Given, the last time an Alfa Romeo US return was guaranteed, they were then too and the time they guaranteed it back in 2000. It's a neat idea, but does need to be taken with a pillar of salt.

Getting the car back

For some time, Fiat has been promising the return of its luxury brand Alfa Romeo to the States. The brand fits between two other Fiat brands that are a little more luxurious and a little less.

Fiat said that Alfa would come back in 2013, then 2014, and then 2013 again. Alfa has been gone from the States for a long time but has been guaranteed a speedy return.

A two-seater sports car called the Alfa Romeo 4C will be making its way back to the U.S. as the first Alfa Romeo sale, according to NBC News. It is intended to hit dealerships later this year, according to Star Phoenix.

Most do not care

A lot of people who use an auto loan rates calculator recognize that they cannot really afford the price of the 4C that will cost between $75,000 and $100,000. That means that hardly everyone will actually be getting the vehicle. Most people do not even care that Alfa Romeo is coming back.

Furthermore, according to the Star-Phoenix, production volume is planned to be around 2,500 per year, due to the cabin being mainly made from carbon fiber.

Also, as Car and Driver points out, Alfa has been huge on promises and very small on delivery on the subject of resuming sales in the United States. The brand pulled out of the industry in 1995 and its high-water mark was in 1986, when Alfa moved 8,201 units.

It seems like Alfa is more severe about returning now, though it has been making promises to return that have not happened since 2000. In 2008, they did sell a few 8C Competizione roadsters, but that is all they have done.

Not a huge deal for most

The press appears to be making a huge deal over "Alfa Romeo U.S.," and some might wonder why that is. Ultimately, it's just another luxury brand; so what if it's Italian and has a "wop motor," as Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne put it? Hardly anyone bought them when they were sold here and they were notoriously unreliable.

Mainly, it's because Alfas are often gorgeous to behold. The 4C is achingly beautiful and the 8C, its predecessor, could very easily be said to be one of the most beautiful automobiles ever made. Renderings of the Gloria, a concept car that will go to the Geneva Motor Show later this year as well as auto shows in Asia and the United States, according to Automobile magazine, is equally stunning. The 4C, according to Gizmag, will even be there.
