Is A Speeding Ticket A Misdemeanor

By Jack Morgan

So you or someone you know just got a speeding ticket and you want to know if it is a misdemeanor. The answer that that questions is bot no and yes! What do I mean by that? Well, chances are good that your speeding ticket was nothing more than a traffic violation. The only times speeding would be considered a misdemeanor is when you are speeding at an extremely reckless speed (well over 100 mph) and are putting other peoples lives in danger.

Nobody can rightly deny the fact that a speeding ticket is basically issued on a driver crossing his driving limits. The primary reason of issuing a speeding ticket is to make drivers more responsible and encourage citizens to abide by the traffic laws of the country. It is thus levied on an offender to make him or her realize his fault.

As a driver, you must have realized that over speeding is dangerous, not only to your own life but also to that of other road users. Putting one own life and that of others at stake to gain merriment and pleasure is not accepted and is considered as a violation of the law in many states.

Not all misdemeanors have the same punishment because they differ in the state of severity, you can even get a misdemeanor and not go to jail, but even if that is the case it is highly recommended that you seek the advice of a lawyer or attorney to tell you what your next steps should be.

A traffic violation (or infraction) is not nearly as serious and is not considered a criminal offense. To give you an example, if you are speeding you will get pulled over and likely receive a speeding ticket, but it is a minor infraction and not a serious criminal offense.

Things like traffic violations can easily be resolved in court, there is no need to worry about any jail time. It is also very rare to see lawyers get involved in minor traffic violations because their prices would cost more than the ticket would.

When you get a traffic violation such as speeding you have the right to challenge it and bring it to court. If you are going to challenge the ticket, it is extremely important to be respectful to the officer that pulled you over because you will be seeing them again in court and you have a better chance of getting out of the ticket if you showed the officer respect.

Driving courteously is the absolute best way to avoid being flagged down and get issued with a speeding ticket. Stay out of the express lane to avoid the temptation of driving faster. Don't tailgate lanes as you might aggravate other drivers who might phone the highway patrol thereby turning you in. Always drive with the flow of traffic and be on the save lane.
