Ways To Make A Flower Bed With Tires

By George Dodson

Anyone who wants to save on fruit and vegetables should do like maybe their parents did and grow their own. An easy thing to do and not an expensive one either. The enjoyment of having fresh produce from your own garden is great. In addition, you can grow your own herbs. Store bought produce cannot be as good as that which you grow fresh from the garden. You also get the satisfaction of a produce, you have created yourself. Finally, you control what goes into it. You know it is fresh, natural, and without preservatives.

You may be someone who would love a garden but doesnt have the room. Therefore people need to look at alternatives. One possible answer to this problem is to plant your garden in smaller spaces. This works because you can plant, harvest, and plant again during the season and still have enough for your personal needs. One good idea is to plant your garden in old tires.

Old tires are available free at many outlets. You might them for only $5.00 in other places. If you plan to do some regular planting you will need about 5 tires. But large installations may require over ten tires.

To some people the old tires may not look so good. Maybe the neighbors will object? Covering them up with something can make them look much better. Setting the tires in some wooden boxes would make them look better. You can cut them up to form patterns such as pedals on a flower, and paint them on the outside to make them look better. Try, as a stand, the rim of the tire.

Decide on a place where you are going to put them and prepare the soil, by cultivating it down to 4 inches. You want the roots to extend as far as they need to grow into healthy plants. Good soil is essential for planting. A local store, Home Depot or a Lowes will stock this. Follow the instructions on planting the seed and fertilize well. It is vital that water well but not too much. You will have a small but adequate garden that will fulfill your needs very well. Growing your own produce instead of buying it will save you money.
