What Lies Beneath Your VW Cylinder Heads?

You have recently noted that your car is releasing a lot of white smoke and wondering what might be the problem. This is an indication that your car engine has a problem. To be more specific, the gasket is not functioning properly. The most delicate part of your Volkswagen is the VW Cylinder Heads which are covered by the gasket. The function of the gasket is to seal and block the engine from the coolant passages. In case your gasket malfunctions, it will allow the coolant to penetrate to the cylinder and this causes it to be heated and turned to vapor after the engine is turned on.

What causes the failure of your VWs gasket? One of the main reason is overheating. When there is intense heat in the engine compartment, it will cause the warping of the gasket and the engine head will not seal properly. The VW Company has improved overtime since the Nazi regime and has become one of the best car manufacturers in Europe. Some of the vehicle brands that are sold by VW Company include Bentley, Lamborghini and Audi among a few others.

How can you know that a car is manufactured by the VW Company? All VW cars have a blue VW logo on them. In all their vehicles and any other vehicle, engine heating is the main cause of the head gasket to fail. When the engine heats, then it will cause the engine metal construction to expand beyond the set limits. Some other few reasons of the gasket to fail include detonation which is also called pre ignition.

When the gasket fails, an out-of-time combustion happens in the cylinder heads. The out of time combustion is not allowed. This is because the combustion that happens in the engine occurs when the closed valves and also the pistons on top of the engines power stroke. Therefore, the improper combustion will strain the valves, gasket and also the pistons.

Other than emission of the white smoke, you can know if your gasket is experiencing any problem if you hear a pinging noise in your car similar to knocking. To change your gasket, begin by removing the engine.

Begin by removing the mufflers and exchangers before you disassemble the lower compartment which encompasses the fuel pump, pressure plate and the friction disk. Remove the nuts which are eight in number and remember to keep the washers safely. After you remove the cylinders, hold them together with the assemblies.

If you want to replace the cylinder head at this point, ensure you have removed the sleeves and continue to slip the piston out. You can also choose to replace the compartment. Before you do so, remove the piston wrist and squeeze the pistons components out. Replace the gasket using the right size for your engine.

By now you have realized that replacing a VW gasket is not an easy task to be done by an unqualified person. Your VWs head gasket rarely expires because of age. If it needs replacing, then it means other parts of the car are old and worn out and they need to be replaced. In case the head cracks and you are able to see the inside of the engine, then it means most of the parts have been burnt.
