Businesses Cranking Out Supercars In Spite Of Gas Price Hike
Though many people have been feeling the pinch of gas costs, supercar makers have hardly noticed. High performance green vehicles are becoming more accessible, but traditional high-end sports vehicles are still being made without considering gas prices. The male who has the cash to buy a McLaren has the cash to spend more for gas.
Speed at McLaren
McLaren, the race vehicle business and boutique sports automobile maker, is beginning to work on a new vehicle that will debut in 2014, according to AutoWeek. The company that brought the world the F1, the fastest road automobile in the world for almost a decade, is releasing its new vehicle this year, the MP4-12C, but McLaren isn't content to rest on its laurels. A 5-liter motor with about 800 horsepower will be in the car that McLaren is now working on. In 2.8 seconds, the vehicle should be able to go from 0 to 60 while being able to go from 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron with a price tag of $500,000.
Corvette brings new jobs to GM
CNN reports that about 250 new jobs will be added to GM in order to invest $131 million into a new Corvette. This is so it can develop a Chevrolet's sports vehicle that is even better. The Corvette has been produced since 1981 in the Bowling Green, Ky., GM plant and will continue to do so for the next few years with the new vehicle, which means several jobs will be opening up. Information on the automobile isn't accessible yet. There still is not a release date either. Chevrolet is rolling out a new Camaro for 2012, according to Popular Mechanics, called the ZL1 Camaro. The ZL1 will have the same 6.2L V-8 that comes in the Cadillac CTS-V, which produces more than 550 horsepower.
More than just a fast vehicle
Though supercars are the kind of automobiles that don't traditionally prioritize environmental considerations that does not mean performance car makers are entirely unconcerned. To be able to produce a "green" McLaren, the automaker is hoping to get some hybrid automobile engineers. The new 918 Spyder is a vehicle sold by Porsche currently that is a plug-in hybrid that will top out at 199 miles an hour, drives three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid can on electric power alone and will go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, states USA Today. It gets 78 miles per gallon in it too. According to the Daily Mail, Ferrari released last year a hybrid version of the 599. It hopes to, by 2015, have hybrid versions of all of its automobiles. The 599 HY-KERS is the name of the automobile that can get up to 25 miles per hour while going 200 miles in one hour of driving. It has the same V-12 motor too. Lamborghini declared in 2009 it would have a hybrid out by 2015, according to Popular Science. Even the beasts with impressive firepower under the hood are going green.
