By Joshua Brown

Applications of farm chemicals can be quite demanding. When you opt for the old manual methods, the work can be quite costly and take a long time. It is therefore a wise idea to mechanize the way one applies the chemicals in their farm since it tends to be cost efficient and takes less time compared to manual methods. There are several things a farmer or a businessman should put into perspective if they want to acquire a lime spreader.

Whenever you making a making purchase, the cost of all the equipment need to be evaluated well and considered. There are many brands of spreaders in the market and each has its different price tag. Since they all perform a similar job, one is usually at liberty to choose any of spreader brands. One is highly advised to make a tour around the dealer shops with an aim to try and get to know the different pricing and be able to decide on the fairest price being offered.

The size of the spreaders is determined by the measure of their volume in cubic meters. As the tanks are varying in sizes, so are the spreaders sizes. When visiting a dealer, one usually has their specifications depending on the size of their farms or their requirements. It is always advised that one should get a bigger spreader rather than restricting their selves on to specific size just in case there are changes in needs in future. It would not hurt to be prepared.

Most spreaders are mostly made on trailers with wheels. They are to be hooked to tractors or trucks. Some are also fitted permanently in trucks. Those fitted in trucks comes in handy for those without means to pull like the tractors or trucks to pull the spreaders. They are also advised for those who would want to commercialize the service to other small scale farmers in the region.

When one is making such a big decision such as investing in a farm machine, it should be durable. You should make sure it is made of strong material that can withstand all the rough conditions and handling in the farm. The strong metal such as stainless steel is much advisable since the metal is both strong and does not corrode.

The space the spreader spreads the chemicals in one pass is determined by the length of the boom. They come in many sizes of about 5, 57 and 70 feet. The longer the boom, the more area is covered and the faster the work is done. The boom should also be made of a strong and durable material to avoid it breaking for is hanging on the sides.

The spreader is an independent entity that come fitted with their fully functional operations controls. Their operations should be easy for anyone in the farm to use or operate. These operations should take the least time to save time during mounting and dismounting from the pullers.

The spreader should be well calibrated for more precise metering the output of the chemicals. This is because there different requirements in quantity of chemicals spread. They are also an economical advantage for those who would wish to take the services of this kind to farmers.
