Discover Oil, Lube And Filter Services At Competent Chicago Car Repair Shop

By Clayton Maske

Motor oil is not just a thick liquid substance that sits in a receptacle in the car. It has the important purpose of minimizing friction between the different parts of the engine. Your Chicago Car Repair mechanic would advise you that it lubricates, cools and cleans the parts of the engine.

Each three-thousand miles that is put on the speedometer reminds you that an oil change is due. Additional checks of the engine and tires are often included in an oil change. But, ask the individual working on your car just what is included. You may want to add additional checks.

You do not ordinarily think of oil as being clean at any time. There is oily hair and oil slicks on the road that are not clean. The oil added to the car is fresh, however. Sometimes fragments of metal and dirt can get in with it over time. The stick, called the dip stick, is used to measure the oil and will show when it is dirty or sluggish.

It may be customary to check other things when an oil change is done. There is one basic truth to remember about your car and maintaining it. It is far cheaper to keep it well maintained than to pay a huge repair bill for a service that could have been prevented.

Ask that the air filter be checked, as well as the oil filter. Have all fluids topped off. Have the engine checked to detect any leaks. Replace worn belts and hoses. Ask to have the undercarriage and the tire pressure checked.

Most of the new cars have sealed fittings. That means they do not have to be lubricated. Check whether yours is one of them. If not, request lubrication. Your body needs fuel in the form of food and water. Your car needs fuel in the form of oil, brake fluid and transmission fluid.
