Locating A Challenger Rhd Conversion

By David Allen

If you are moving to a country where they drive on the other side of the road with a US made vehicle, a lot drivers will have the vehicles controls moved to the opposite side of the car. If you are looking for a challenger rhd conversion there are a few options available after some homework has been done. It is not a legal requirement in most countries but making the changes should make driving a lot more comfortable.

Converting from left to right hand drive is not simply swapping some parts to the other side of the vehicle. The main driver controls will have to be relocated as well as switches and interior trim. Many fittings may also need adjustment and components of suspension systems and brakes will also need some modifications or adjustments.

The cheapest option when doing a conversion is to purchase a kit from a specialist supplier or online retailer and do the job yourself. There will be kits offered that are tailor made for Dodge Challenger cars. You need to be aware that many kits are quite basic and when the job is finished there will be some metal work, fixings and components visible to the people in the vehicle.

When you are trying to find a kit some of the internet retailers are the best place to start. Suppliers will have many kits in stock for Challenger cars and the items will be shipped to your home with fitting instructions. As well as the cost of the parts some other custom tools may be needed to do the job and they should be able to supply you with these.

The safest option is to give your Challenger to a specialist company and let them to do the conversion for you. There are many established companies with years of valuable experience who can do these modifications to a very high standard. It will be a more expensive option than if you do the job, but the work they have done will be covered by a guarantee.

If you employ a company do the modifications you will get a better finish. All parts can be hidden away and the vehicle will appear as though it came from the factory as a right hand drive model. Other advantages of using professionals for the work are that they offer aftercare for the car and will be on hand if any issues arise.

Whichever conversion method you choose it is important to have the car inspected by the relevant safety bodies. Most firms will issue you with certificates covering all of the alterations and a detailed list of the items that have been changed. If work is done in your workshop then the vehicle will need to be submitted for a safety inspection prior to it being driven on the roads.

The last thing to consider is that if your vehicle is still under its Dodge warranty these changes will affect it. If you plan to sell the car in the future the sale price may be lower than that of a factory original. To make sure you comply with the law, your cars insurance company will need to be informed of the modifications and your premiums may be higher.
