An Overview Of CDL Training In NJ

By Frank Reynolds

For anyone who was born to run along the New Jersey tracks then he/she must consider getting a commercial driving license. That will provide a chance to enjoy a broad range of the chrome-wheeled fuel injected big movers in the state. However, before we even go too far, there must be some basics that the interested persons should be aware of on CDL training in NJ.

All the new applicants must be new Jersey residents. They should prove that they are medically sound by undergoing a rigorous medical examination. All the applicants should have at least a 20/40 vision with or without glasses. The medical certificates must be updated in not more than two years. The minimum age for the application is 18 years, but to attain a hazard material one must be at least 21.

The vehicles are grouped into 3. The categories are the classes which they fall. It can either be class A, B or C. Class A includes all the commercial vehicles not exceeding a total weight of 10000 pounds. This involves the trucks and their trailers that fall within that weight category. For a person to be allowed to drive either a class B or C a class A certification is required.

Class B vehicles include all with a gross weight exceeding 26001 pounds that tow a trailer of a total weight not exceeding 10000 lbs. A bus that is designed to transport more than sixteen passengers also falls in this category.

Class C involves all the school buses that have a sitting capacity of over 16 students. The total count is inclusive of the bus driver. The limousines carrying more than eight people for commercial purposes are included in this group; this is basically the group that entail numerous passengers at a go depending on their distinctive sizes.

There are other qualification clauses that the commercial vehicles must attain in addition to the necessary requirements. For all passenger transporting vehicles, an individual passenger endorsement is required. There are specific clauses for the tankers more so the ones used to transport flammable liquids and gasses. The school bus has even more conditions as a safety measure.

The applicants are required to take a test. The questions vary according to the class of vehicles they want to be licensed to drive. Its structure is that it contains 50 items made by all the trainees. The double and triple trailer test then have 20 additional questions, same as the passenger and the tanker tests and the air brake test. In that category, for the hazard material tests contains 30 questions.

The road test is then given to those who have satisfied the instructor that they have sufficient theoretical Knowledge. A test on the pre-trip inspection is then done. The examiner then asks questions about the pre-test and marks against a score sheet. The core competencies on controlling the vehicle are then conducted. If the trainee scores satisfactorily, he or she then proceeds to a test on the roadway operations. Successful applicants will then be awarded the driving licenses. However, there are some rules one has to abide by or else will lose the driving license. Mainly that is when one is caught driving under the influence of alcohol or escapes an accident scene.
